TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL
Why do we have the Turangawaewae festival?
Because we want to celebrate all the culture in our school and also for fundraising!

On Tuesday the 6th of March room three made hobo stoves. Sarah, Charlotte, Sophie, Lachlan, Eddie and I made pancake mix because we were making pancakes on the hobo stoves

TREASURE ISLAND
This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map. He was once a pirate, a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death.
Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charley) Squire Trelawney ( Sarah), Mr Dance ( Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. He is evil and one of Captain Flint's pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail. On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them.
When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn ( Zion) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the goodies . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island. The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain Flint. Ben screams horribly..
They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England
My favourite part in the show was when the goodies find the treasure!

VOLCANOES
Deep within the earth, rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky sub tance called magma when magma is pressured it is forced up to the earths surface and pushes up through the vents.
When two plates push together they sometimes form volcanos. This is because pressure forms cracks and the magma flows through them.

The name of the show is Rock Da House and our vocal leaders are Paulette and John they were helping us with our singing. Our really cool soloists were Makayla, Jason and Quin. Makayla sang We Are The World. Jason sang Falling Slowly. Quin did ukulele for Hey Soul Sister. My favourite songs were We're Gonna Have A Party and Eye Of The Tiger. I feel a little bit nervous about it though.
My thoughts about the show... I felt great and my heart was pumping. I talked to my Dad after he said it was awesome. The soloist were great especially the ones from our school and I think the audience loved it.
DENTAL HEALTH
Dental heath week was great because we learnt heaps of new stuff like in our mouth we have incisors canines and molars. Incisors are made for cutting. Canines are made for ripping. Molars are made for grinding. On the 11th of September we had a long lunch with heaps of healthy food.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT
We made signs because we want to protect the birds and their eggs. A person from Doc named Sally came and talked about the project we were doing. She brought bits of driftwood from the spit.
Sophie and I were partners for making the signs. I drew the pictures and painted our signs.
We went to the Kumaras to see the unveiling of the signs and we played a cool game.
LEONARDO DA VINCI
Leonardo Da Vinci in the 16th century created the Mona Lisa also known as La Gioconda. Leonardo invented fire throwers and missiles and made the first design for the machine gun. Da Vinci was left handed and he could write backwards as well as he wrote forwards.
ANIWANIWA
On Monday the 29th of October we had the opening of our new multipurpose room called Aniwaniwa. First Whaea Tania called a Karanga, then about five minutes later Reverend Gladys blessed the place so we all walked though the building. Then Whaea Tania told us about the name Aniwaniwa. It means rainbow and she told a whole story about it, it was really cool. After that they unveiled the tukutuku pattern that was awesome. Now it was almost finished. There was just a couple of speeches left. After it was finished we got some cookies and a chocolate bar.
