Turangawaewae festival

We have the turangawaewae festival to celebrate other cultures, to have fun and to make money for the school.

What I enjoyed

Quin singing

I enjoyed the rock climbing. I enjoyed drinking and eating. I enjoyed the bouncy castle.

Hobo Stove

Yesterday room 3 made pikelets outside.  I was excited because we didn't do school work.

First off all we put butter on the hobo stove.   And we put the mixture.  After that it started cooking and after half an minute we flipped the pikelet.After the next half a minute it got cooked but mine got burned!

finally we got to eat it and we put the Golden syrup on it.It was delicious and me and lachlan got 3 each.

It was awesome but a bit boring shaking the bottle and I liked making pikelets.

How to make a stove

Fantail

Fantails Maori name is piwakawaka.  They can fly around by using their wings and and also their tail.  Fantails eat insect's while flying in the air.  Fantails are most likely found in the bushes and lowlands which means they live in the Bush's and lowlands.  Fantails are indicator species and they only live for 3 year

NZ falcon

falcons Maori name is Karearea and it is half of the size of an hawk.  Falcons fly with there wings like other birds.  Falcons protect their hunting area which means they fight other birds who trys to go in their hunting area.  Falcons are n.z bird of prey which means they are the only birds in New Zealand which eats meat.  They are awesome birds.  Falcons mostly eat chickens.

Morepork

Moreporks Maori name is Ruru.  Ruru is a small dark brown spotted bird and has large owl eyes.  Ruru is mainly found in the forsted areas from the sea level to high level which mean s they live in the frosted areas .  Ruru s eat nariety of insects and small animals like rats\mice and smaller birds.Ruru has a viriteyof calls but denives common  name from the iconic call that sounds like more-pork.  Ruru is hard to spot because it is nacturnal hidden in frosted areas and possessses einly silent flight.

 TREASURE ISLAND 

This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map. He was once a pirate, a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death.

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charley) Squire Trelawney ( Sarah), Mr Dance ( Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. He is evil and one of Captain Flint's  pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.  On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them.

When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn ( Zion) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the goodies . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island. The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain  Flint. Ben screams horribly..

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England

The Olympics were held in London Great Brittan

The participators were more than 204 countries

Some of the activates I watched and enjoyed were Basketball, Sailing and Running

New Zealand had a very successful games. We won 6 golds, 2 Silvers and 5 bronze medals.

                                                                                                                         The leaders are John and Pauletle. The name of the band is The Peasants. The soloists are Jason/ Makayla and Quin. My favourite song is One Day. I fell a bit nervous before the show.                                                          Thought after the show

It went really well. The soloists performed really well. The audience were really enjoying it. I think it was an awesome show and was one of the best shows we ever did.

DENTAL HEALTH

 

 . What I learned about teeth was the different kind of teeth like K9s. How to care for teeth well.  Brush your teeth after you have breakfast or dinner not before. Good food for teeth are fruit and vegetables.

Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the greatest painters ever. Leonardo Da Vinci conceptualised a helicopter,   a tank, concentrated solo power and a calculator.

                      

Aniwaniwa

 

 

Last Monday it was the opening of the multi purpose room.  First of all we sat on the chair for 20 miniutes and then they opened the door.Then all the classes went in and looked at the multi purpose room.  While we were looking,the whanau sang the rainbow song.  After that Whaea  Tania told us the rainbow story.  Then we got chocolate.  My favourite part was eating chocolate and  the boring part was sitting there.

TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL

1. Why do we have the Turangawaewae Festival?.  We have the festival to celebrate all the different cultures at our school.  And to fundraise for the school.

2. What did I enjoy best about the festival?  What I enjoyed most about it was the bouncy castle and the food.

Yesterday we made pikelets on hobo stoves but first we had to do the butter and the mix.  Each group got a bottle of cream that we made the butter with.  

After that we made the mix. Each person in the group got a turn at getting and putting in the ingredients.  

Then we made the pikelets. Our group pikelets were delicious with maple syrup.

FANTAILS

                                  

                                              Fantails live in the bush and on low land from branch to branch.  They

                                             eat insects while flying often scuffet up by walkers.  It can flit around by

                                              using its wings and tail. Its maori name is piwakawaka also often used.

                          The New Zealand falcon is the fastest bird in New Zealand.  It can live

                                          up to 25 years of age and is extremely vierce.  It is very territorial and protects its hunting area.  It is now nz only bird of prey.

BOOK WEEK

We have book week because we want to celebrate books.  During the week we had people come into read to us and we had the stop drop and read for ten minutes.  On Friday we had the big parade up High street and down Pah street and into and through the kindergarten.  We should give Becky a big thank you for organising book week.

VOLCANOES

Volcanoes are caused by to much presure or earthquakes.  Rock gets so hot it turns into magma witch is melted rock.  An erupting volcano could wipe out an entire island.  It is such a powerful sorce of nature

The activites I enjoyed watching were soccer, basketball, and swimming. ROCK DA HOUSE

 Rock da house is a type of music festival including Parklands Riwaka and Motueka south. The band the local heros the Peasants. Leaders Paulette and John and the band. We have lots of talented soloists like ,Makayla, Quin, Jason, and other schools soloists. The song I enjoy are Hey soul sister, Count on me, Eye of the tiger. It will be a very cool show and we are gonna ROCK DA HOUSE!!!!!!                                                       

THOUGHTS AFTER THE SHOW

 

 

It all went according to plan.  Weeks of long rehearsal all paid off-all songs were perfect-no problems what so ever,the soloist,went oh so fine.. What beautiful voices.  The audience loved it.. I was in the front row so I was nervous.  I felt it was an awesome show and I know everybody felt that way too.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT                                                                                                            

We had been planning a trip to go to the Kumaras to raise the bird caution so we made some signs.   Alex and I did not finish our sign but we still took part. On the way there  , Raven, Alex, Conrad, and Jackson and I all went in Nick's car. When we got there we walked on the tracks and along the beach and when we got there we played a really fun game. It was a really fun trip in the end.

Leonardo Da Vinci was the most incredible man of his time.  He created paintings like Mona Lisa.  My personal favourite invention was the armoured car.  Virgin of the rocks is my favourite painting.  What a magnifincent man indied.

The opening of the the multipurpose or Aniwaniwa was a great day.  It started with Whaea Tania with the calling.  Then we had Reverend Gladys bless Aniwaniwa. Then Whaea Tania gave a speech  about Aniwaniwa.  Then the tukutuku pattern was unveiled.  It was a great day.
