TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL 

1.  Why do we have Turangewaewae festival? 

To get money for school upgrades and gear.

To celebrate all the different cultures of the world.

2.  What I enjoyed about the festival.

I liked the HOT CHIPS, all the fun things to do and the entertainment

HOBO STOVES

Yesterday we went outside on the grass and cooked pikelets on hobo stoves.   We made the pikelet mix then we got in groups of three and started the fire in the hobo stoves and when we got the fire going we put some home made butter on the stove and put the pikelet mix on and made some yummy pikelets.
I loved them and I wish we could make more in that time.

New Zealand Falcon

The Maori name is Karearea it's the fastest bird in New Zealand.  When other birds enter its territory it will swoop down and grab it in mid air.  It's only half the size of the hawk and is the only native bird of prey.

BOOK WEEK

We have book week because it encourages kids to read books and to celebrate books.  During the week we have some people read to us and we have drop everything and read every day of the week.  On Friday we do the big book week parade where we walk up and down High street and through the kindergarten and then back to school for lunch.  We should thank Becky for organising book week for us.

 TREASURE ISLAND 

This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map. He was once a pirate, a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death. 

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charley) Squire Trelawney ( Sarah), Mr Dance (Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. He is evil and one of Captain Flint's  pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.  On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them. 

When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn (Zion) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the goodies . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island. The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain  Flint. Ben screams horribly.. 

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England

My favourite part in the show was when the pirates fight the others 

My favourite character was Ben Gunn.

My part in the show was singing.

I thought the whole show was grate.

We should thank Smiddey the producer.

Volcanoes

Deep within the Earth , rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky substance called magma.  When magma is pressureised it is forced up to the Earths surface and pushes up through the vents.

When two platse push together they some times form volcanos.  This is because pressure forms cracks and the magma flows through them. The Earth's layers.

ROCK DA HOUSE

Every one loved it.

This is the band they were awesome.

This was part of the Bad Hair Day.

The soloists were grate.

Yesterday we practised for Rock Da House.  The leaders are Paulette and John and the band is The Peasants.  The soloists are Jason and Makayla and Quin played the ukulele.  At the start of the show I felt a bit nervous.  

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT



We made a sign to help people to not disturb the birds,  be aware of eggs and to not bring dogs too far down the sand spit.
My part was making a little sign for the big sign at the Kumaras.
We went to the Kumaras to see the signs that we made and we played a game with Sally.

Leonardo Da Vincici

Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15,  1452 in Vinci,  Italy.  He made two of the most of famous paintings in the world,  the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper.  He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and a writer.

OPENING OF ANIWANIWA

On Monday 29th of October all of the school brought chairs to the opening of the multipurpise room.  Whaea Tania did a Karanga and the doors opened.  The room was called Aniwaniwa that means rainbow.  Mr Major did a speech Whaea Tania told a story about what colour was the best.  The tukutuku pattern was unveiled it's called Whaia teiti Kahurangi.  At the end we were given a bit of chocolate and went back to class.
