TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL

Why do we have a Turangawaewae festival? To celebrate all the different cultures at our school and to fundraise money for our school.

HOBO STOVES.

Last week we cooked pikelets.  We cooked the pikelets on hobo stoves outside our class on the grass.  First of all we got the ingredients and made the pikelet mix then we made butter and then we shaped it.  After that we got twigs and sticks and made the fire and we put it underneath the hobo stoves.  Finally we put the pikelet mix on the stove then waited then flipped it.   Then my one was finished.   It was yum!  I made three pikelets.

FANTAILS

1. Fantails hang around people when you are in the bush because when you walk the bugs come out and they eat the bugs.
2. The oldest fantail was three years old.
3. The fantail's Maori name is piwakawaka.
4. Tantails can eat insects when they are flying in the air.
5. Fantails live for a short time.
6. Fantails live in the bush,lowland but they mostly like it where the insects live.
7. Fantails can flit around stuff by their wings and tails.

BOOK WEEK

We have book week to encourage children to read books and to use the library.
During the week we did a Stop Drop and Read every day.  Other teachers came and read to us.
On parade day we all dressed up in our Book Character costumes and paraded around the town.
We thank Becky for organizing it for us.

 TREASURE ISLAND 

This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy Bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map. He was once a pirate, a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death.

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charley) Squire Trelawney ( Sarah), Mr Dance ( Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. He is evil and one of Captain Flint's  pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.  On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them.

When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn ( Zion) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the goodies . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island. The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain  Flint. Ben screams horribly..

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England

My favourite part in the show was all of it.

My favourite character was Long John Silver.

My part in the show was when I was dancing.

I thought the whole show was good.

When the two plates push together they sometimes form volacno's this is because the pressure form cracks, and the magma flows through it.

Deep within the earth, rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky subtance called magma. When magma is pressurised it is forced up to the earths suface and pushers up trough the vents.

At the center of the earth is a solid metal core, wicth is surround by an outer core of liquid metal around this is a layer of hot rock called the mantle the surface is broken up into large pieces called tectonic plates.

The Olympics were held in London The participants were athletes from all over the world. Some of the activities I watched and enjoyed were BMX Sarah Walker. New Zealand had a very successful games.  We won 6 golds,  2 silver and 5 bronze medals. COOL WIGS.

I liked Rock Da House because it was fun and awesome.  It went well because every school went well.  The soloists at Parklands School did really well. The audience liked it because they got to join in.  I felt awesome when we were performing in the evening.

I learned the Enamel, dental, crown, gums, bone, root and heaps of different stuff. You have to brush your teeth 2X a day four two minutes a day.

                                    OUR ENVIROMENTAL PROJECT.

We made the signs so that we could warn people to watch where they are walking.
My part was when I painted the sign. My sign had Don't chase the birds.
We went to the Kumaras and we played a game and got some treats.

Turangawaewae festival

We have the turangawaewae festival to celebrate other cultures, to have fun and to make money for the school.

What I enjoyed

Quin singing

I enjoyed the rock climbing. I enjoyed drinking and eating. I enjoyed the bouncy castle.

Hobo Stove

Yesterday room 3 made pikelets outside.  I was excited because we didn't do school work.

First off all we put butter on the hobo stove.   And we put the mixture.  After that it started cooking and after half an minute we flipped the pikelet.After the next half a minute it got cooked but mine got burned!

finally we got to eat it and we put the Golden syrup on it.It was delicious and me and lachlan got 3 each.

It was awesome but a bit boring shaking the bottle and I liked making pikelets.

How to make a stove

Fantail

Fantails Maori name is piwakawaka.  They can fly around by using their wings and and also their tail.  Fantails eat insect's while flying in the air.  Fantails are most likely found in the bushes and lowlands which means they live in the Bush's and lowlands.  Fantails are indicator species and they only live for 3 year

NZ falcon

falcons Maori name is Karearea and it is half of the size of an hawk.  Falcons fly with there wings like other birds.  Falcons protect their hunting area which means they fight other birds who trys to go in their hunting area.  Falcons are n.z bird of prey which means they are the only birds in New Zealand which eats meat.  They are awesome birds.  Falcons mostly eat chickens.

Morepork

Moreporks Maori name is Ruru.  Ruru is a small dark brown spotted bird and has large owl eyes.  Ruru is mainly found in the forsted areas from the sea level to high level which mean s they live in the frosted areas .  Ruru s eat nariety of insects and small animals like rats\mice and smaller birds.Ruru has a viriteyof calls but denives common  name from the iconic call that sounds like more-pork.  Ruru is hard to spot because it is nacturnal hidden in frosted areas and possessses einly silent flight.

It went really well. The soloists performed really well. The audience were really enjoying it. I think it was an awesome show and was one of the best shows we ever did.

DENTAL HEALTH

 

 . What I learned about teeth was the different kind of teeth like K9s. How to care for teeth well.  Brush your teeth after you have breakfast or dinner not before. Good food for teeth are fruit and vegetables.

Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the greatest painters ever. Leonardo Da Vinci conceptualised a helicopter,   a tank, concentrated solo power and a calculator.

Last Monday it was the opening of the multi purpose room.  First of all we sat on the chair for 20 miniutes and then they opened the door.Then all the classes went in and looked at the multi purpose room.  While we were looking,the whanau sang the rainbow song.  After that Whaea  Tania told us the rainbow story.  Then we got chocolate.  My favourite part was eating chocolate and  the boring part was sitting there.
