TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL 

Why do we have a Turangawaewae festival ? To acknowledge the different cultures through out our school  

What I enjoyed about  the festival ? was the fried bread and the 

rock climbing wall.

FANTAILS

Fantails will follow you around in the bush because you ruffle up the ground with your shoes and they can get the insects that fly off the ground.

The maximum age for a fantail to live is about 3 years old.

The fantails maori name is piwakawaka.

The fantail is an AWESOME bird because they can use their  tail and wings to flitter around in the sky and do lots of tricks.

The fantail is a cute  and fluffy little bird.

RURU MOREPORK

Ruru is a small dark brown mottled native  owl with large owl  eyes .  It is nocturnal, eating a variety of insects and small animals such as rats, mice and smaller birds .   Ruru is mainly found in forested areas from sea level to the high country.   Ruru has a variety of calls but derives it's common name from the iconic call that sounds like "morepork" Ruru is hard to spot because it is nocturnal hidden in forested areas and possesses eenily silent flight.

BOOK WEEK

We have book week because we want to encourage kids to read and enjoy there books.
During the week we had different people come in and read to our class parents  and teachers.
On Friday we dressed in an island theme and did a parade up the street and we went to the kindergarten.

We should thank Becky for organising it and for being a great help to the libary.

 TREASURE ISLAND 

This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map. He was once a pirate, a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death.

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charley) Squire Trelawney ( Sarah), Mr Dance ( Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. He is evil and one of Captain Flint's  pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.  On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them.

When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn ( Zion) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the goodies . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island. The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain  Flint. Ben screams horribly..

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England

My favourite part in the show was All the singing because it sounded AWESOME!

My favourite character was Squire Trelawney because he was ME.

VOLCANOES 

Deep within the earth, rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky sub tance called magma when maga is pressured it is forced up to the earths surface and pushes up through the vents. 

When two plates push together they sometimes form volcanoes .  this is because pressure forms cracks and the magma flows through them.  

THE OLYMPIC S 2012 Were held in London The participants were countries all over the world. The activites I enjoyed watching were swimming, horse riding and swimming. New Zealand did very well in the games.  We won 6 gold 2 silver 5 bronze Click here to see the full medal table

ROCK DA HOUSE

A couple of weeks ago Rm's 3 Rm's started practising for a choir Rock Da House.  During the way we went to Riwaka School for a practice and Motueka South School as well to practice all together. Then on Thursday the 29th we got together and went and did it on stage . Paulette and John are the organisers and the Peasants are the band we play with they are really cool . The soloists are Makayla , Jason and Quin who look really cool on stage.  My favourite song was Hey Soul Sister because some kids played the ukulele I am very nervous about our big performance tonight but I no that I am going to have a lot of fun. Thoughts After The Show I thought it went great I had a fantastic time and I really enjoyed performing for everyone. The two soloists from our school Makayla and Jason both did a fabulous job they were loud and clear. I think the audience had a great time and they had a few laughs to I really enjoyed the night and I would love to do it again.

   

                                                                                                      

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT

                                                                                                                                                                     
During the first and second terms Sally from DOC came to talk to us about godwits.   We wanted to help by trying to let people be aware to watch out for birds and their eggs.   First we had to come up with something we wanted to write and then we painted them with bright colours .  Then on Monday our class went to the Kumaras to see the signs on the beach.  We all had a photo with our sign. LEONARDO DA VINCI                                                                   

Leonardo Da Vinci was fascinated by technology and working of machines.  He invented fire throwers  and missiles .  He made an early design of a machine gun.  Hundreds of inventions were sketched out in his notebook : tanks helicopters, bicycles, submarines, hang gliders, cranes, bridges, and more.  Leonardo Da Vinci was born on april 15th 1452.  His parents were unmarried and he was an only child  .

ANIWANIWA                                             

 

                                                                                                                                                                    

On Monday the 29th we had the opening for Aniwaniwa, our new multipurpose room.  We started off with a karanga to welcome everybody.  Then Reverend Gladys blessed the buliding.  Next Whaea Tania told us the story about the Aniwaniwa the rainbow.   We picked Aniwaniwa because it represents all the different cultures in our School.    After that they revealed the tukutuka pattern, and it was called Whaia Te iti Kahurangi it was cool.  At the end we all got a biscuit and a chocolate bar.  It was a great opening for our new room.
