TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL

Q. Why do we have a Turangawaewae festival?A. to earn money for the school and to celebrate other cultures. my favourite thing there was the bouncy castle. :):):)

HOB0 STOVES

Yesterday on Wednesday the 6th of March room 3 went out and made pancakes. We made it on hobo stoves outside MOTEC.

1. First of all we made butter by putting some cream and some salt and then we started shaking. We got 20 shakes each. When it was done we had to pour out the buttermilk and got a board and a padder and started padding. My favourite bit was making the pancakes.

We put 1 cup of flour

some sugar

and an egg

and butter that we made earlier that morning then we mixed it all together and then we all went out to collect sticks for our fire. Karina and I stayed and put more flour and I sneaked a bit of sugar. When they came back we quickly put the flour and the sugar back and mixed it . I enjoyed it ‘cause we didn’t have to do work.

Finally we went out and got our paper and sticks we collected earlier that morning and then we set up the fires. When the hobo stoves started going going, we put butter on it and the pikelet mix on. The first pikelet was a disaster. It had metal stuck to it. It was Karina’s pikelet

The next one was Sherly’s pikelet and it was soggy and wasn’t cooked properly so she chucked it away. Mine was the best of all . It was cooked properly . I felt extraordinary. The pikelets tasted good. I hope we can do it again this year .

FANTAIL

Friday 27th of april

Fantails live up in mountains but a few live around houses and farms. The fantail can have up to 5 chicks a year. The fantail lives up to only three years. They are a indicator species because when theres heaps around in the forest it means that the forest is healthy and it got heaps of produce. The Maori name is piwakawaka. They eat insects while fluttering around unlike any other birds which have to land and then eat.fantails have an ability to flutter around in the air.

BOOK WEEK

We have book week to encourage children to read books and to use the library.

During the week we did a Stop Drop and Read every day. Other teachers came and read to us.

On parade day we all dressed up in our Book Character costumes and paraded around the town.

We thank Becky for organizing it for us.

TREASURE ISLAND

This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy Bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map . He was once a pirate , a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death.

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charlie ) Squire Trelawney (Sarah ), Mr Dance (Shannen ) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollet(makayla ) who gets Long john silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. Long john is evil and one of Captain Flint's pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.

On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them. When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure. An old pirate called Ben gunn (Zion ) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the gang .

Jim takes off and sails the around the island . The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning

until they hear Boo whom they think is a ghost of Captain Flinty's. Ben screams horribly..

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England.

Deep within the earth, rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky substance called magma.When magma is pressured it is forced up to the earths surface and it pushes up through the vents.

The Olympics

The Olympics were held in London.

The participants were countries all over the world:)

Some of the activities I watched and enjoyed was gym and equestrian. NZL had a very successful games. we won 6 golds, 2 silvers and 5 bronze medals.

BAD HAIR DAY

Parkiands had a choir in rock da house. We had the Pesants perform for us while we sang.Our leaders were paulette and John. Our awesome soloists were Makayla, jason and quin who played his ukelele. My favourite song is BAD HAIR DAY and SOMETHING IN THE WATER. in BAD HAIR DAY we wear wigs.
I didn't want to do Rock Da house so I did not really enjoy it. Makayla and Jason did awesomely with there solo parts. The audience had heaps of cheers. I think they loved it. I can't sing so I didn't think it was that great.

We learned about how cavities how they form so quickly and they don't start hurting till they have eaten away at your teeth. You have Incisors, Molars and Canines in your mouth.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT

We made signs for DOC to stop people standing on new born chicks and eggs.

My part was drawing the block letters and painting. My buddy was Karina.

We went to the Kumaras on Monday to watch the signs being put up.

Leonardo Da Vinci was born in Italy April 15 1452.

He died 1519 May 2nd.

He was dyslexic, so he wrote backwards.

ANIWANIWA

On monday the School gathered for the opening of Aniwaniwa.

First we were greeted by a Karanga. And then Mr Major made a long unravelling speech!!!!

And then we blessed the room by walking around it, touching it. Whaea Tania explained the meaning of Aniwaniwa, the rainbow. It reflects all the colours and cultures at our school. At the end every one got a chocolate and a biscuit.
