Why do we have the Turangawaewae festival?

Celebrate  our  cultures.

What I enjoyed about the festival.

I enjoyed winning $20 dollars and dancing on stage.

HOBO STOVES

On  Tuesday Rm 3 made pikelets on hobo stoves. First of all we had to make some butter.   We had to get a milk bottle and shake it 20 times.   when we finished shaking it we had to put it on a board. After that we put it on the hobo stove. Finally we ate it all up. They were Delicious.

  FANTAILS

Fantails live on swaps and hills . The Maori Name is piwakawaka. They eat insect While fiyingin the air often scuffed up by using it's wings and tail they only live for a short time,about three years.

Morepork

The Ruru is a  small dark brown motted native owl with large owl eyes.  It is nocturnal,eating a variety of insect and small animals such as rats,mice,and smaller birds.  Ruru is mainly found in forested areas 

                                                                                           

BOOK WEEK

We have book week to get people in to books.

During the week we read every day.

On parade day we dressed  up into a book character and walked half of High street and Pah street .

 TREASURE ISLAND 

This story starts in the Admiral Benbow, an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a map. He was once a pirate, a member of Captain Flint's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death. 

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (Charley) Squire Trelawney ( Sarah), Mr Dance ( Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Madison ) to collect a crew. He is evil and one of Captain Flint's  pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.  On the trip Jim hears of a plot to kill them. 

When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn ( Zion) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the goodies . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island. The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight. The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain  Flint. Ben screams horribly.. 

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England

. My favourite part was Shasa's  song. My favourite character was Quin

VOLCANOES

Deep within the earth, rock is so hot that is melts to become a sticky sub, tance called magma.  When magma is pressurised it is forced up to the.  Earths surface and pushes up through the vents.

The particpants were100 countries around the world                                                                                    

Some of the activities I watch were Football,Swimming,and Sprinting

New Zealand were very successful.  We won 6 golds, 2 silvers, and 5 bronze

ROCK DA HOUSE

The name of the show was Rock da House.

Our  leaders are John and Paulettle and Quin.

The special items were Quin and the Riwaka Ukelele group.

The songs I most liked were Hey Soul Sister,One day.

How I felt before the Concert was very nervoues.                                                                                           

THOUGHTS AFTER THE SHOW

It all went Awesome with the singing.

The soloist performed very well.

The audience liked because it was funny and happy.

DENTAL HEALTH

 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  What I learned about teeth is to brush your teeth twice a day.  How to care for teeth:  Brush your teeth for 2 mintues.  Good food for teeth are  fruit and vegtables. 

                        

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT

We made signs because  to protect the Godwits from their long trip from Alaska.
My part was WATCH YOUR FEET.
We went to the Kumaras to see our signs.

OPENING OF ANIWANIWA

On Monday 29th of October Aniwaniwa our new multi purpose room was opened.   Whaea Tania did the Karanga to welcome all the people.   Reverend Gladys blessed the building then the Whanau followed in the Whanau song,  a wiata about the rainbow Hinekura  and Selina  uncovered the tukutku patten. It was awesome then we got some Lollies from Whaea Sue.
