Our Magnificent Work: TOKU MAHI NA CHARLEE

I am interested in gymnastics, sports, art and gardening. My favourite colour is purple. In my spare time I like to do some sports and playing on the computer. I have a brother and a sister and a mum and a dad. My favourite food is chocolate cake and homemade pizza. My goal for 2012 is being extraordinary at gymnastics. I also live in Motueka.

TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL

Why do we have Turangawaewae festival? To earn money for our school. To celebrate other cultures. To have fun.

We had a lot of activities such as:: Rock climbing, the watermelon, the chips, the bouncy castle, winning $20 from golfing, and fishing.

What I enjoyed about the festival?

I enjoyed the bouncy castle because it was fun.

I also enjoyed the rock climbing because it was fun getting up it.

I enjoyed eating, and my favourite food was the chips.

MAKING HOBO STOVES

We first got A milk container and Mr Turner already put cream in it and some salt. We then shook it. Our group did 20 each person but then we did another 20 more then we put in water and we started to cut it half way. We went outside. Alana scooped the butter out then Suelakiah started to eat the mixture. Sherly took too long so I took if off her and did the butter shape.. It was fun making the shapes.

After that we made the ingredients for the pikelets. It was awesome when we were getting turns to get the ingredients. When we got up to the egg we had to mix it 20 times each. We then went outside to get some dry sticks.

Finally our class Room 3 went to a green patch of grass. It was much better than doing writing and maths . We stuffed sticks and paper. Paper came first then sticks. Mr Tony came and lit it. It didn’t go I felt nervous because I thought it wouldn’t go. Then the second one didn’t go so we put fire lighters in the hobo stoves and then I made a pikelet. We had 2 each. My team was Sarah, Shannen and Charlee / Me . They tasted yum and it's especially good with butter and golden syrup YUM!!!!!

I felt good about cooking them and a little bit nervous because some of ours dropped on the ground, which happened.

FLIPPER THE FANTAIL

Live in the bush. Fantails are forest dwellers. Their tails are like fans. Fantails live for a short time. The oldest fantail is 3 years old. The Maori name for fantail is Piwakawaka. fantails can flit and bounce around with there wings and tail. They are an indicator species which means that they show how healthy the bush is. Fantails hang around you when you are in the bushes and because you scuff up all the insects from the ground.

NEW ZEALAND FALCON

1: The falcon has a wide distribution being found on both the North and South islands several offshore islands including Stewart Island and the subantarcis Auckland Islands.

2: The famous have been around for about 30

million years.

3: They catch their food with their claws.

4: They are protected species.

5: They like chicken. They catch it for food.

6: They are the fastest bird in New Zealand.

7: The Maori name for falcon is Kareua.

BOOK WEEK

We have book week because:
We have book week because to encourage people to read books and child into books.

During the week we:
During the week Penny (that works in the office) said in the afternoon nearly by lunch was Drop Everything And Read and some people came in and read us some stories.

On Friday we:
On Friday we dressed up as Island things such as Pirates , Samoans and lots of others. At about 10:00 in the morning we walked down the main street, high street and then we crossed over and the corner of Tudor street then we went to Laura Ingram Kindergarten where the little kids watched us with their mouths open, and we waved Goodbye. When we came back to school we got to take our costumes off and wear mufti.

TREASURE ISLAND

This story starts in the Admirial Benbow , an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy bones (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a treasure map . He was once a pirate , a member of Captain Flinty crew. He is visited by Black Dog (Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind Pew (Sasha ) comes and scares him to death. Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey ( Charly) Squire Trelawney (Sarah ), Mr Dance (Shannen) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollett (Makayla ) who gets Long John Silver (Maddison ) to collect the crew.

Long John Silver is evil and one of Captain Flinty pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail. On the trip Jim hears Long John Silver is going to take over the Hispaniaola and is going to take the lot. When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn (Zion ) who has been marooned , arrives and joins the group . Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island . The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight . The pirates are winning until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a goodies of Captain Flint. Ben Gunn screams horribly.. They all run away and the goodies from the treasure and sail back to England. My favourite part was when Sasha sang because he has a good voice and it really fantastic. My favourite character was Squire Trelawney. My part in the show was dancing and singing. I thought the whole show was the best ever. We should congratulate Miss Smith the producer.

VOLCANOES

Deep within the earth,rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky substance called Magma. When Magma is pressured it is forced up to the earths surface and it pushes up through the vents. When two plates push together they sometimes form volcanoes. This is because pressure forms cracks and the Magma flows through them.

OLYMPICS

The Olympics were held in Great Britain ( England )

The Participants were countries around the world

Some of the activities I watched were Gymnastics, Bmx ,Rowing and High Jump

New Zealand had a very successful games. We won 6 gold, 2 silvers and 5 bronze medals.

ROCK DA HOUSE

This show is called Rock Da House. It means you sing songs and do actions and a whole lot other things like a choir. The leaders are Paulette and John they are really good singers. The band is called The Peasants. You should see them on Youtube! They are super duper good. The soloists from our school are Jason, Makayla and Quin who are good as well. The songs I enjoyed was Hey Soul Sister ( Quins Song ) and Count On Me. I feel really nervous because I am one of the introduction people and I'm also really excited. I felt after the show happy and relieved. It all went good but I messed up on my lines at the start and I nearly forgot to put my wig on because I was still so worried about my lines. The soloists were really good but Jason (our school ) sang but it wasn't the time. Makayla (our school ) coughed most of the time in her songs. I think that she was a little bit sick and nervous. I think the audience had a great laugh through the show definitely when it was the Austrian Yodel action show. Everyone got involved and they really enjoyed it because my mum and dad did. I felt excited about the evening because I couldn't wait till the next song.

DENTAL HEALTH

I learnt about diffrent teeth, tooth growth, teeth and gums and Fluoride how it works and that sugar aint good for your teeth and lots other stuff.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TEETH?

I care for my teeth and I clean them 2 times a day and about 2 minute brushing my teeth and use Colgate toothpaste.

GOOD FOOD FOR TEETH?

Probably fruits, milk and little healthy snacks because sugar can make holes in your teeth if you eat to much sugar sweets so fruit is good because it doesn't have much sugar so it won't make holes in your teeth.

DRINKS? Milk and water are good for you but fizzy is really bad for you, you should have it occasionally.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT!!!

We made the signs because the godwits were coming and we wanted to look after them so they would be safe. I wrote on my post WATCH YOUR STEP because there can also be camouflaged eggs so you should remember Watch Your Step!!

My part was painting and doing bubble letters.

We went to the Kumaras. We met Sally Leggett and we went to the sandspit and I just remembered to watch my step. We played a game, Would you rather go to New Zealand or stay in Alaska. Well I chose both because we got more food and I was really puffed after.

Leonardo Da Vinci

He had keen eye and quick mind that led him to make important scientific discoveries yet he never published his ideas. It took about 10 years for Da Vinci to paint Mona Lisa. The name Leonardo Da Vinci translates to Leonard from the town Vinci. Leonardo was left handed. Two of his works, Mona Lisa and The Last Supper are the most famous paintings. Leonardo Da Vinci dug into graveyards at night to steal corpses and study human anatomy ( and find out where the soul was).

KAPA HAKA

I love doing kapahaka because it's my culture and it is lots of fun. We are singing Pa Mai, Aue Rona e and the boys are doing a haka called Poutini. We should all give Wheae Brooke a big hand for doing the kapahaka fun day. I think this is a great idea because it is like a production and brings new talent to other people and they get to learn new songs in Maori!!!!!
