TURANGAWAEWAE FESTIVAL

Why do we have a Turangawaewae festival ?

1.We have a Turangawaewae festival to fundraise money for sports equipment.

What I enjoyed about the festival .

2.I enjoyed eating the hot chips.

3.I also enjoyed listening to the music and watching the dancing

HOBO STOVES

Wednesday 7th of March in room 3 Mr T collected hobo stoves and we made pikelets.

We all collected dry wood and leaves in our group. We made butter first of all. When we had finished we had to patter it. It was really fun .

We started our hobo stoves. Karina started our hobo stoves. Karina, Lucia and I started the fire then first up was Karina. Her one was good apart from her one which had metal. It was Lucia’s turn next. Her one was so good. Me after, my one was so bad ‘cause the flame went out.

At the end I made one. After I realised I might have not made a lot but I had a great time .

FANTAILS

1.The maori name for a fantail is Piwakawaka .

2.Fantails can only live up to 3 years which is a short time .

3.Fantails live in the bushes and lowland .

4.They eat insects while flying in the air often when people walk .

5.If there are fantails in the bushes it means it's healthy .

BOOK WEEK

We have book week to encourage children to read books and to use the library.

During the week we did a Stop Drop and Read every day. Other teachers came and read to us.

On parade day we all dressed up in our Book Character costumes and paraded around the town.

We thank Becky for organizing it for us.

TREASURE ISLAND

This story starts in the Admiral , an inn. Jim Hawkins (played by Quin) works there. Billy (played by Shanti ) comes to stay. He has a . He was once a pirate , a member of Captian Flinty's crew. He is visited by Black Dog (played by Stevie )who fights him. Then the evil Blind pew (played by Sasha ) comes and scares him to death.

Jim gets the map . He gets the Goodies, Dr Livesey (played by Charlie ) Squire Trelowny (played by Sarah ), Mr Dance (played by Shannen ) and they hire a ship called the Hispaniola. The captain is Captain Smollet(played by Mikayla ) who gets Long John Silver (played by Maddison ) to collect a crew. Long John Silver is evil and one of Captain Finty's pirates. He collects all the other pirates and away they sail.

On the trip Jim hears the plan. When they get to the island the Goodies go to the stockade . The baddies go in search of the treasure . An old pirate called Ben Gunn (played by Zion ) who has been morooned , arrives and joins the group .

Jim takes off and sails the ship around the island . The pirates have nowhere to go. There's a big fight . The pirates are winning
until they hear Ben Gunn whom they think is a ghost of Captain Flinty. Baddies screams horribly..

They all run away and the goodies find the treasure and sail back to England.

My favourite part was when Sasha sang

VOLCANOES

Deep within the Earth , rock is so hot that it melts to become a sticky substance called magma . When magma is pressurised it is forced up to the Earths surface and it pushes up through the vents .
When two plates push together they sometimes form volcanoes . This is because the pressure forms cracks and the magma flows through them .
At the centre of the earth is a solid core ,which is surrounded by an outer core of liquid metal . Around this is a layer of hot rock called the mantle .

The Olympics

The Olympic was held in Great Britain , London
The participants were countries around the world
Some of the activities I watched and enjoy were gymnastic
New Zealand had a very successful games . We won 6 golds 2 silvers and 5 bronze

The name of the show is called Rock Da House . The leaders are called Pauletle, Quin and John. The band is called the Peasants. Our soloist are Makayla and Jason. The songs that I enjoyed are Something in the Water and Hey Soul Sister. I felt scared but eventually I did it .

MY THOUGHTS AFTER THE SHOW

The whole show went very great .
The soloists were great especially the ones from Parklands .
The audience looked like they had a great time .
I felt really happy when we were finish and i would love to do it again .

Dental Health
What I learned about teeth was that if you don't get rid of plaque it will turn into hard tartar .
How to care for your teeth is to use a soft tooth brush .
Good food for teeth are fruit, bread and vegetables.

WINTER TOURNAMENT
On Friday the 14th we had our winter tournament. All the sports were Hockey, Netball, Rugby and soccer. I did hockey with Charlee and we had a great time. We came 3rd out of all the 13 schools. When we had our break all the girls made a grass thing.

Leonardo Da Vinci left many paintings unfinished and destroyed most of his work.
It took Da Vinci about ten years to paint Mona Lisa's Lips.
Leonardo Da Vinci had dyslexia. When he made notes on his inventions it was all written in reserve, which made it hard for others to dig through his notes and steal his ideas.

ANIWANIWA

On 29th of October we opened the multipurpose room. The first thing that happened was Mr Major making his speech. Then Whaea Tania told us about why the name was Aniwaniwa. It was people at this school are from different cultures and then she told us a rainbow story. We sat for about an hour. At the end we got chocolate. My favourite bit was eating the chocolate.
